MEET ZANE

I didn’t have a roadmap into the fashion industry. I built one.

I’m Zane - international Fashion Stylist, Creative Director and founder of Style Boss, with over 15 years of experience working across the global fashion industry.

I created Style Boss to share the real-world knowledge, experience and lessons that helped me build my career and give the next generation of stylists the guidance I wish I’d had when I was starting out.

MY STORY

Fashion was always how I expressed myself.

Even at school, I was constantly searching charity shops, vintage stores and Japanese boutiques for one-off pieces, reconstructing clothes and putting things together in a way that felt completely my own.


But loving fashion and knowing where I belonged within the industry were two very different things.

It was during work experience in Sydney, after trying several different areas of fashion, that I began working alongside a stylist. That was the moment it clicked. This was what I wanted to do.

Not long after, I packed my bags and moved to London to pursue it.

I didn't have a perfectly mapped-out career plan or a network waiting for me when I arrived. I interned, assisted, worked for very little at times and took every opportunity I could to learn. It was hard work, but I was relentless. I'd sacrificed too much to move across the world and not give it everything I had.

There wasn't one big break that suddenly changed everything. I built my career piece by piece.

Every shoot, every assisting job, every relationship and every experience taught me something. Eventually, the small jobs became bigger jobs. The assisting became my own work. And after years of building my experience and reputation, I reached a point where clients weren't just paying me to style - they were paying me for the value of my experience.

That was when I knew I'd built a career.

Since then, that career has taken me across London, Paris, Dubai and internationally, working across editorial, advertising, celebrity styling and creative direction.

And so much of what got me there had nothing to do with simply having “good style.”

It was understanding the industry. Knowing how to work on set. Building relationships. Creating opportunities. Developing a reputation. And continuing to show up when things weren't happening as quickly as I wanted them to.

That's the knowledge I now bring to Style Boss.

Because you can learn the creative side of styling but building a career in this industry requires understanding everything that happens around it too.
